Long-nosed, White Karen

Reading my last blog I thought I should expound on the definition and details of that phrase.

Long-nosed: as a foreigner (to Thailand), especially of European descent, most have long noses. actually don't because I'm part filipino (more of a flat, wide one I'd say!).

White: also, as a foreigner of Thailand having a European descent our skin tends to be a envied white... (although again, I am an expection... my filipino-ness gives me a nice creamy brown).

Karen: Is on of the hill tribes of Thailand/Burma/Lao area that I was 'adopted' by...

Sometimes I joke that instead of being a long-nosed, white Karen that I am a white-nosed, long Karen. IT is almost fitting... BUT my nose isn't that white.

Words

Goodness, I miss my Thai home. I was talking to one of my friends about memories I made there so I thought I'd write some down before I forgot them.

"Wah!" Momo Cat taught me how to say that... Gooness I love clean swearing. I find myself doing it a lot now. It is kind of funny because I catch myself being so "Long-nosed White-Karen". Then there is the phrase "Cannot!" It seems that Thais never put it as a contraction, can't, but always cannot. It makes me smile because it is said with somewhat of a whine and overused AND used in place of won't. I smile but it could be frustrating when someone means that won't... not that they can't... Hmm, what else is there? Oh yeah... some of my filipino friends overusing the words, "Of Course". Oh, oh and who can for get A-hoy! with the tonal deep then highness.

Okay... enough.
Not quite... since I've become a 'butt' girl (inside joke) I always catch myself when I use that contraction. Mai bpen rai.
